So, Maddi and Brody have been wanting a dog for a long time. It was narrowed down to a Bulldog months and months ago, but every time we would go online to look, they were priced anywhere between $2000-$3000 and we were just never prepared to pay that much money for a pet. Also, because they're such a special breed, there are usually waiting lists for new pups and we were never patient enough to put down a deposit and just wait around for puppies to be born, so we just kept looking. Well, we came across a breeder up in Ferndale who happened to have 4 puppies (2 boys, 2 girls) and they were only priced at $1500. We corresponded via e-mail for an evening before we decided to just tell her we'd like to come up and take a peek and pick one out. Because the drive was so long, she had her husband meet us in Burlington with the puppies. No mistaking, it was still a LONG drive, especially on the night of a lightning, thunder, rain storm, but it was worth it because we picked out this little cutie...
We got him at 11 weeks and decided on the name Griffin after Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin Jr. III (who Brock loves). We loved the idea of an English Bulldog breed because they are good family dogs, good with kids, and low maintenance (outside of varying health issues). Thus far, he is testing our patience on the housebreaking end of things, but we're hopeful we can get past that sooner than later. We are also currently concerned that he may be deaf. He is being treated for an ear infection and it would be nice if that were the issue, but we're afraid he is truly deaf. He responds to no sound whatsoever...we may be learning doggy sign language shortly.
BUT, the kids are in love with him, especially Maddi. She is definitely his "person".
