Maddi really found her niche this season as her team's goalkeeper. While she usually would only play one half of a game in the goal (they're still too young to really have a "position" and need to play on the field too), she was known as her team's goalkeeper because it was clear she loved it and was the best in there. It's been awesome to see her connection with Brock build through this discovery. He was her personal goalkeeping coach, always warming her up before games and standing by the goal, encouraging her and giving her tips throughout each game.
The season ended with a 3 day soccer tournament, in which her team did okay, but Maddi ROCKED it in goal. For this tournament (the first for all of the girls on her team), she did play goal for the entirety of the games and got so many compliments from the opposing coaches, parents, and players. Lots of, "who is that goalie?!", "she's awesome!". She's not perfect, as no goalie ever is...balls still got by, but her fearlessness and instinct really kicked into high gear for this tournament. This season, was by far the most fun we've had as soccer parents/grandparents and look forward to watching her grow in this game.
We have found a team that we LOVE...the players have grown so much individually and as a cohesive group and the parents are great, as well. While everyone is taking the summer off, we are definitely looking forward to fall ball!
