Maddi's First Vision Exam

Maddi has been complaining of headaches for the past month or so, so I made her an appointment for a full vision exam, but since that booked out so far, I first took her in to see her pediatrician, Dr. Huang to see what she thought.  Based on the fact that she was getting them in the middle of the school day and knowing the kind of girl Maddi is, Dr. Huang concluded that these were tension/stress headaches.  Maddi is such a perfectionist and hates to get answers wrong or miss problems, her handwriting has to be just so, and she is not okay with being good; she has to be the best.  She also has two parents who easily stress, so unfortunately may have inherited those tendencies too.  We have talked to her about the fact that she doesn't have to the best and BE 100% at everything she does, as long as she tries 100% and does the best that she can do and works as hard as she can.  Unfortunately, if this is her nature, it will be hard to change.  The doctor just suggested some relaxation and breathing strategies, so we'll try some of those out.

We finally got in to get her eyes fully examined and at first thought maybe she is far-sighted, as she has always done well on near-sighted tests, but she is only slightly far-sighted, so she doesn't even need reading glasses.

Well, we got it all checked out and there is nothing wrong with her health-wise, so hopefully we can help her to cope with the stress of school and trying not to be so hard on herself.
